More about Portland’s Groundwater: Groundwater from the Columbia South Shore is a secondary source of drinking water for Portland and is a critical component of the region’s drinking water system. Groundwater is used to help meet higher summer water demands and to provide water during emergencies or when Portland’s primary drinking water source, the Bull Run watershed, is not available. This event is a part of the outreach efforts of the Portland Water Bureau’s Groundwater Protection Program. The Cities of Portland, Gresham and Fairview have implemented this program to protect the Columbia South Shore Well Field – a drinking water source for over 900,000 Oregonians. LRC Technical Advisory Subcommittee

The Levee Ready Columbia Technical Advisory Committee (TASC) meets monthly to discuss, review, and advise on technical issues related to LRC's objectives and projects. The members of the TASC supported the completion of the geotechnical investigation of the entire 27-mile levee system, including the coordination of drilling hundreds of holes into the levees to test their stability. Up next the TASC will be identifying a set of alternative solutions to address seven deficiencies identified within the levee system that must be remedied in order to preserve accreditation through FEMA.
