The Levee Ready Columbia Communications Subcommittee meets monthly to provide strategic advice to LRC staff on issues related to communications, community outreach, public engagement, and public affairs. LRC Technical Advisory Subcommittee

The Levee Ready Columbia Technical Advisory Committee (TASC) meets monthly to discuss, review, and advise on technical issues related to LRC's objectives and projects. The members of the TASC supported the completion of the geotechnical investigation of the entire 27-mile levee system, including the coordination of drilling hundreds of holes into the levees to test their stability. Up next the TASC will be identifying a set of alternative solutions to address seven deficiencies identified within the levee system that must be remedied in order to preserve accreditation through FEMA. Bike the Levees (West Route)

Bring your bike and your friends for a tour of Portland’s levee system! The Multnomah County Drainage District, Verde, Andando en Bicicletas y Caminando (ABC), and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council will lead this 17-mile bike trip on easy terrain along the lower Columbia Slough in N/NE Portland.Riders will learn about the functionality and history of Portland’s levee system which protects people and properties from flooding, as well as the work that’s being done to ensure that the levee system meets modern standards for public safety. Participants will also learn about the Vanport Flood of 1948 and discuss the lasting impacts on communities then and today.Representatives from Levee Ready Columbia, a collaboration of government, business, and neighborhood organizations working together to evaluate the condition of our local levee network and to ensure valuable regional resources are protected in the future, will also share information. Vanport Mosiac Festival: The Spirit of Vanport Lives On

  As we explore our history of “othering” and Oregon’s racial legacy, we invite you to join us this Memorial Day at the site of the Assembly Center. Here, 4,000 Japanese Americans were interned before being sent to camps in 1942. Here, adjacent lands held thousands of American migrants working The Kaiser shipyards. Here, the Native Community gathers to this day celebrating their original connection to homeland. With a wide lens, we celebrate the resilience of “The Vanport Spirit” and its legacy with a full day of memory activism activities. 10:00 – 10:20: Opening Remarks & Stories In Movement The day starts with Stories in Movement public sharing and celebration.
